This still life of a simple glass of water was painted during the turbulent times of the Covid 19 pandemic. The word 'still' in the title carries a double meaning... non sparkling, calm amidst chaos, but also one of the few things which remain the same, and permanent.

This still life painting of mackerel on ice in a supermarket contains a certain pathos in its very stillness. If we remember the fish alive, darting through the dark oceanic waters with their exotic patterns and colours glinting, their new frozen state is a stark contrast. On a painterly level, I loved merging the representational with the semi abstract to arrive at a composition which for me sums up the sea, especially around Norway where I have spent much time.

A still life study of a glass of red wine. I enjoyed reproducing the subtle shades, from the deep red in the centre of the glass, to the shallow shades around the edges and in the reflections on the glass and the shadow. The tiny bubbles and highlights add a little sparkle and focus to the piece.
